Meet the Man Behind Frozen9 : Independent Gaming Studio
Who is Nefu?
Let me Introduce myself, my name is Gerald Long II everyone called me Nefu like “Nephew”. Detroit Rapper, Digital Marketer, Daytrader, Gamer, and Game Developer but I wasn’t always sure of what I wanted to do. When I was a kid I always wanted to create video games when I was younger. I first thought about the idea when I
di
scovered the NeoGeo, Atari, and Sega Master system (my first game system) I was hooked. Nintendo released Super Mario, and my parents go it for me when I knee high.
From there I had a Super Nintendo Street fighter II, Battletoads, and Contra were my games of choice. Family would come over and we would just play the game, and the family would be in awe seeing the skills of my cousins who were good at playing the games.
Later Nintendo 64 took over E3 with Mario 64, Goldeneye and Zelda: Ocarina of Time blew my mind how 3D graphics completely changed the way I had to play the game. My imagination was growing, because you could no longer do things the 2D way, now you had to do things in a 3D space. Playstation released Final Fantasy 7, and Tomb Raider and from there I made up my mind. I wanted to make video games.
College:
I grew up in Detroit, Michigan, we weren’t poor but we were definitely not rich. So my single mom bought me a computer with her income tax check when I was 15 and I started learning programming and website html language. I couldn’t afford the gaming software at that age, but I heard later that by going to college I’d have access to the software. I studied hard and got into Lawrence Technological University for Computer Science, programming and I really felt this was it. At some point I only got into college with a scholarship school cost like 22k a year, and all we learned about creating video games was 8-10 math courses and sleepless headache prone nights.
I eventually dropped out of college because I couldn’t keep up with the payments and I was financially crushed. I give up my imagination though, I just had to find myself again. I am happy that everything happened the way it did, because I learned so much through running my businesses online how to build brands and become successful. I learned digital marketing and I have the skills to market and promote just about any digital content online with my agency AdsManagerPro.
Why Gaming?
Gamers and Game developers never seem to be on the same page when making new games. Its so hard to express to the developer what you want to play as a gamer. The developers are usually under pressure by the investor or investors and they don’t get the creative freedom they thought they would on the project. I know that there are political circumstances inside the major gaming studios, but I want to address the gamer’s point of view by making indie games that gamer’s want to play. I want to tackle the gaming industry, because I have been playing video games my whole life. I also have something incredible I can bring to the gaming industry that took me years to build, my audience. I have an incredible amount of followers across social media platforms from all the marketing work I’ve done for others online.
Many Game developers don’t have access to large audiences without having to pay influencers top dollar to get promoted. I want to create marketing solutions for indie game developers as well as create games so I can fulfill my destiny. Working alongside many indie people is my goal, because in all industries major corporate level brands will have trade secrets they cannot unleash to the public. Whereas indie developers can teach each other and collaborate on projects to help themselves to the pool of knowledge to make better games. Its a lonely world and I don’t plan to be successful by myself.
There are many elements missing from today’s games that I plan to rework back into gaming. I will discuss those later when I have completed my first few projects. I’m going to start by getting familiar with the software Unity and soon I’ll be able to bring something cool to your devices. Stay Tuned
